Since 2011 The Fair Work Ombudsman have been on a campaign to educate and assist the real estate industry in understanding their workplace laws and responsibilities associated with hiring staff and contractors.
A recent statement by the Fair Work Ombudsman reported that Fair Work Inspectors are continuing to receive complaints such as non-payment of minimum entitlements for commission-based staff.
The Federal Circuit Court have issued fines of up to $28,000 to Company Directors following what they believe is “an apparent need for the general deterrence of the common disregard of industrial instruments in the real estate industry” in addition to the back pay owed to their staff.
