The latest update to ISO 9001 is underway – are you ready?
Are you currently ISO 9001:2008 Certified?
If so, there will be an update from the current standard 9001:2008 to 9001:2015 scheduled for release in September 2015.
In accordance with the latest draft, those looking to gain certification within the next 14 months or so will still use the 2008 version and the 2015 version will not impact your certification until it’s time for you to be re-certified.
The changes to the new Standard mean that recertification may require extra effort, especially for those businesses going for integrated standards certification.
Whilst still in its draft form, the new Standard takes into account the vast changes in technology, business diversity and global commerce. Here are some of the proposed changes so far:
Changes in structure with the old standard having eight sections, which is expected to expand to ten. Additions are likely to be performance management and evaluation. There will be changes with terminology.
The new approach is said to be modelled from the ISO’s own Risk Management Principles guidelines to move away from corrective/preventative action approach.
It is likely that the standard will now have to take into account the context of the organisation, looking at broader standards of operation through elements such as sustainability and corporate social responsibility.
